Lackawanna Rail

This song came out of a festival that I went to in Asbury Park with Rik Palieri (an old friend from High School) and his wife.  When he and I were young, Asbury Park was a great place to go.  It was a great high school date.  It was great for that first love. 

Now, of course, it is gone downhill.  When we were there for this festival, we took his wife out to the boardwalk, and we were practically in tears.  The shops were all closed and boarded up.  The carousel was gone and the building that used to hold it was filled with trash.  The rest of Asbury Park was much the same way.  The hotels were closed up and run down. 

So this one day, I got a new guitar.  It sounded kinda tinny and I got to thinking that it would be fun to write a retro type of song.  That made me think of Asbury Park and the times from my youth.  It all came together really quickly actually.  We like singing it for the memories that it brings back.
